KAI NORTH grew up in Scarborough between shift-work and library hours, stealing instrumentals from YouTube and teaching himself to record on a busted SM58. His first mixtape — a 9-track document of overnight drives through the GTA — quietly moved 40,000 streams before the label heard it.
Prime6 signed him in the fall of 2024. He is the label’s first solo artist.
The debut EP, NORTH GATE, arrives in Q4 2025. Produced in Peter E.’s studio with an eight-piece string section pulled from U of T’s faculty of music, it’s built on patience, detail, and a refusal to chase trends. KAI writes about the city the way people who grew up in it actually live in it: transit passes, late-night diners, cold walks home from double shifts.
“I don’t want to be everywhere,” he says. “I want to be undeniable.”
